Kirby Smith

Postgraduate Research Fellow

Kirby is an Academic Fellow at Columbia Law School and a Post-Graduate Research Fellow at the Ira M. Millstein Center for Global Markets and Corporate Ownership at Columbia Law School. He is interested in corporate law, corporate governance, mergers & acquisition, securities regulation, and law and finance. 

Before coming to Columbia, Kirby was the Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel at Bridgeport Partners, a financial technology focused private equity firm, an associate at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, and a law clerk to Chief Justice Leo E. Strine, Jr. of the Delaware Supreme Court and Hon. Andrew D. Hurwitz of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Kirby holds a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of The University of Chicago Law Review, and a B.S. from New York University. His writings have appeared in the Yale Law Journal Forum, The University of Chicago Law Review, and the Iowa Law Review.
